Priyanka: 'I Love To Kick Butt'

It had been a long day for Priyanka Chopra when CS met her late in the evening. Though the lady was under the weather, she was in an upbeat mood
`If I had superpowers, I would have loved to read people's minds. Most of the time people don't say what they think,` she says. Here are excerpts from an interview.

My favourite super hero
It has to be Batman. He is the dark knight, a character with so many dimensions to him. Plus, he has some really snazzy toys like the Batmobile and Batcycle. And the best thing about him is his butler. I love butlers (flashes a smile). In real life, it was my dad. He was my friend, protector and someone who pampered me.

Work comes first
I work like a robot. My work has been my biggest solace in the past couple of months. I forget everything when I am on a set or in a recording studio. Working makes me oblivious to every other thing around me. I am happiest when I am working.

On the same plane
I have done the maximum number of films with Hrithik. He is my most consistent co-actor (laughs out loud). I think he's a phenomenal actor and someone who always inspires me to give my best. We are great friends and have respect for each other. I guess that transcends into a good working relationship.

Masala vs substance
As an actor, I want to portray versatile characters. That's been my idea right from the beginning. I am glad that I have been able to achieve that in the past couple of years. In 2011, I had 7 Khoon Maaf and Don 2 while in 2012 it was Agneepath followed by Barfi!

I love all kind of films and it's always good to explore yourself. I love to kick butt. The two total action flicks that I have done are Don and Drona. My upcoming films too have a lot of action though they don't belong to the genre per se.

On a song
I feel my singing career has enhanced my acting. I never neglected acting or my Bollywood career for singing. The past one-year was a truly testing one, and I had to really race against time to complete my projects. But I do get a high when I look back and think about how I did it all. And I thank God for that.

Looking at the West
I am not exploring any avenues in Hollywood. In life, I have grabbed whatever opportunities I got and gave them my 100 per cent. I am not someone who believes in creating opportunities for oneself. As far as my music career is concerned, I am glad to have such a huge label supporting me. The fact that I got to work with some great artists and make music with them was in itself a huge thing. I couldn't ask for more.

Why 'Madhubala' makers are planning to sue actress Navneet Nishan

Producers of a television show plan to take legal action against Navneet Nishan after she walked out on them
Actress Navneet Nishan set tongues wagging after walking out of 'Madhubala', the daily soap on television. Not only did the makers accuse her of unprofessionalism, they promptly replaced her with another actress, Seema Kapoor. However, going one step forward, the show producers are now planning to drag the issue to court.

Insiders say Navneet's walkout had caused serious financial damage to the producers and they now want the actress to cough up Rs 2 crore to compensate their losses. The makers want to take legal action after her sudden no-show.

Says a source, `Though we have completed more than 400 episodes of the show, we had issues with Navneetji ever since we started shooting. She was required to shoot for eight hours a day, which she never did. Moreover, she always used to be in high spirits on the set. Twice she left the shoot suddenly and we had to bear huge loss due to her.`

Producer Abhinav Shukla confirms, `We are going to take this matter to the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA). I am in talks with my lawyer.`

In the meanwhile, the actress has also filed a complain in CINTAA against the production house and says, `They tried to defame me. Let the association deal with it.`

Post 'Fukrey', I refused seven scripts: Vishakha Singh

Vishakha Singh is in no hurry to sign films and fill up her kitty. Game for any genre, the actress would take up projects that would offer her meatier roles.
Active in Telugu and Tamil films, Vishakha also featured in Hindi films like "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey", "Fukrey" and "Ankur Arora Murder Case".

"Post 'Fukrey', I have refused seven scripts. It's important to do what you completely believe in," Vishakha told in an e-mail interaction.

"I am game for anything - from drama, comedy, to thriller, romance and family entertainer. I want to try my hands at everything. I want to focus on good scripts where I have a pivotal role," she added.

The actress is set to make her Malayalam debut with Rajesh Pillai's "Motorcycle Diaries" and says language is not a barrier anymore.

"The divide between the film industries is diminishing. I am comfortable in multiple languages. Once in a while, if good scripts like 'Motorcycle Diaries' in Malayalam or a romantic comedy 'ValebRaja' in Tamil comes my way, I will take them up," she said.

A self made person, the 26-year-old does not allow the fate of a film to affect her.

"I am not part of the rat race. At the end of the day, I know I did it on my own without a mentor, godfather or recommendations," Vishakha said.

"I have seen the lows of the career very early on and have come to the conclusion that a Friday can change everything. The only thing you can do is work hard, listen to your gut and be patient," she added.

Don't like to talk about Yash uncle in past tense: Rani Mukherjee

Actress Rani Mukherjee says she feels the void left by the demise of filmmaker Yash Chopra but does not like to talk about him in past tense
"I don't like to talk about Yash uncle in past tense. He is a living legend and will always be there in our hearts and lives," Rani said.

She was speaking at a function where the inaugural National Yash Chopra Memorial Award was presented to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar here last night. Chopra's wife Pamela was also present. "She (Mangeshkar) is the most deserving recipient of the award.

They had an emotional connect," the Bollywood actress said. "It has been a year since Yash uncle passed away, but the young generation will remember him through this award and his films," said Rani with her voice choked with emotion. Mangeshkar was down with fever and doctors had advised her rest, but she still came for the function. This speaks volumes about her, she said.

The award has been instituted by a foundation led by industrialist-politician T Subbarami Reddy, who has produced Hindi films like 'Vijay', 'Chandni' and 'Lamhe'.

I lap up things that help me get better: Mahie Gill

New benchmarks are set and a few stereotypes are broken with each character that Mahie Gill plays in a movie. The actor, who rose to fame with her performance as 'Paro' in 'Dev D' is ready to experiment more and grab any opportunity that allows her to try something new.
The Chandigarh-girl, who has made a place for herself in Bollywood with her unconventional roles, bold avatar and more, is now grooving to the tunes of item numbers.

`I lap up whatever would help me get better in Bollywood," said the actress during her visit to her hometown.

"After I did a dance number in my Punjabi film 'Carry on Jatta', that is when directors felt I can actually dance. Since then, I have got a lot of offers for item songs. I am happy with my dance number in 'Zanjeer' and I am looking forward for my next in Saif Ali Khan's 'Bullet Raja'," she added.

Known for her intense roles in "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" series, she feels that the cliche roles don't interest her much.

`I am very choosy about my scripts. After doing bold roles, I can't settle for anything less," she said adding that her decision is guided by scripts.

"I don't make a conscious choice to choose unconventional roles. If I like the script, I go for it. For me, the script has to be interesting. Even if I have two to three scenes in a film, I don't mind doing it if they are worth it,` the 37-year-old told.

Even after establishing herself in Bollywood, Mahie does not shy away from doing Punjabi films.

Asked about her love for Punjabi cinema, she said: `I owe a lot to the Punjabi film industry and my last Punjabi film 'Carry on Jatta' was a blockbuster. I don't think a comedy film like this has ever been made in Bollywood. Punjabi cinema is doing great. Such films are the reason for me to continue with the regional cinema. I feel this is where I belong.`

Post "Carry on Jatta" success, Mahie claims she got offers from NRIs to make a similar film at a budget of Rs.20 crore, but Mahie feels this is sheer waste of money.

`The regional cinema does not work on such huge budgets. People who are abroad have lack of knowledge and they are just ready to invest without thinking. Such a huge budget is unnecessary and will not give adequate returns in the Punjabi industry. So I rejected those offers,` she said.

Which is your favourite role so far?

`Paro in 'Dev D' will always be close to my heart. Though all characters that I have played are special to me, but 'Dev D' will always be my favourite,` she said with a smile on her face.

On her wish-list are more comedies and actioners. "Also a film based on sports. After 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', I would love to do a biopic on some sportsperson or a double role is what I would like to do,` added the actress, who featured in "Paan Singh Tomar".

Mahie's personal life had some rough patches in the past, but now she admits being happy in a relationship with a guy from Jammu, who does not belong to the film industry.

Talking about her upcoming films, Mahie said she is all set for "Gangs of Ghost", which is a 1950s horror comedy inspired by legendary actress Meena Kumari.

`I am very excited about the film. I am also doing a dance number in it. The genre is very different from what I have done so far and since it is inspired from the legendary Meena Kumari, it makes it more interesting,` said the actor looking stunning in her gown.

My 'Ram Leela' item song is modern mujra: Priyanka

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who has done an item song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ram Leela', describes it as a modern mujra which has Indian vibes with a western touch.

"The song is very different and special because I am a huge fan of Mr. Bhansali. It's a modern mujra which you all have not seen for a long time. It's a mujra, but modern. It's got Indian music and vibes, but still western and contemporary.

`It has got a different look, different form of dancing and I didn't have time to rehearse. I used to rehearse at night," Priyanka told reporters here.

Aishwarya Rai was reportedly approached for the item song before Priyanka.

`Ram Leela` features Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead.

10,000 beer bottles play a key role in 'R... Rajkumar'!

Believe it or not but some 10,000 beer bottles play a 'vital' role in the upcoming Shahid Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha starrer
In the upcoming Shahid Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha starrer R...Rajkumar, a mammoth collection of beer bottles have been used in the film. The makers claim 10,000 bottles (someone from the sets was given the task of counting them?) have been utilised.

The glassware has been described to essay a 'significant' role in the thriller along with the stars. These beer bottles apparently clink and clamour for as much attention as the stars with their histrionics.

All films nowadays steadfastly carry the message that smoking and drinking affect health substantially.

Wonder how these plethora of beer bottles, who the makers allege make a big impact in the film, will pass muster with the concerned authorities. The Censor Board and health ministry raise the alarm when anyone lights up a cigarette or takes a sip of the bubbly on the screen as they feel Bollywood glamourises smoking and drinking.

As R...Rajkumar is an action flick, most of Shahid's stunts and fight sequences have been done with beer bottles. Not to be left behind Sonakshi also has gone on a bottle-breaking rampage - on the heads of the goons in the film.

When asked about the presence of the numerous beer bottles in the film, producer Viki Rajani explains, `In the Gandi Baat track, it is a desi bar song.

The production designer Nitin Desai came up with the idea to do the entire set using beer bottles. It also added a lot of colour when it was lit up for shooting.

The beer bottles have added flavour to the set up.`

In the Gandi Baat song where Shahid and Sonu Sood get jiggy along with director Prabhu Dheva the thousands of bottles are on display on the sets. The rest keep popping up every now and then in the flick.

Has Sridevi gone under the knife?

A bitchy actress from Juhu has been wondering why Sridevi is looking alag. "Sri, who is always immaculately dressed, appears to be a tad heavy on the top," says the actress
`In her last two public outings this week, the English Vinglish star appears as if she has sought some help on the augmention front.

Considering that she is particular about her appearance, it can't be weight gain only in a certain area,` trills the bitchy actress. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Need we say more?

What ails Soha Ali Khan?

Soha Ali Khan suddenly felt dizzy and left the premiere of her film 'War Chhod Na Yaar'

Boss' Party Spoiled: Objectionable word in song muted

The Delhi High Court Friday disposed of a PIL seeking a stay on release of Akshay Kumar-starrer "Boss" after its producer told them that an objectionable word in a song, sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh in the film, has been muted.
The decision was given by a division bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and Justice Manmohan.

"The word in the song has been muted and the Central Board of Film Certification has issued a certificate in this regard on Oct 9," counsel for the producer told the court.

The movie is scheduled to hit screens Oct 16.

The PIL was filed by a practising lawyer, Sanjay Bhatnagar, through counsel R.D. Rana, who asked how the song was released with such a vulgar word without Censor Board's approval.

The plea also contended that the song sung by rapper Honey Singh contained a vulgar word and the trailers are being shown on various TV channels and other media.

It sought that the film's release be suspended till either the words or the song is deleted completely from the film.

Bengali actresses talks about Durga Puja

Sharadiya Durga Puja is a festival of religious fervour and family bonding. We speak to some of Bollywood's bong beauties on how they celebrate it...
Paoli Dam
It's a festival of celebration and family bonding. The last four to five days of Navratri are considered extremly auspicious and we celebrate it with great pomp and festive fervour. Right now, I am in Kolkata and the celebration is huge here with preparations going on all night.

Every lane is adorned with pandals which are lined with stalls of delectable food. There are huge dhaks (dhols) with sticks which are played on this special occasion. People go out and visit friends and relatives. I don't do the pooja myself but participate in it. I like to wear a traditional sari during the ceremony with some ethnic jewels. I also enjoy bhog which is a kind of vegeterian khichdi and the special sweets.

Raima Sen
Celebrations have changed over the years. As kids, we friends would get together and go around to different pandals.Being in the movies, it has become difficult to go pandal-hopping, but we friends still meet at each others house for durga puja's. My mom, sister and me visit our neighbours house to do the aarti. I wear traditional sari and some jewellery during these pujas. My mother gifts us a piece of gold jewellery every year. We also get the opportunity to wear our grandmothers and mom's classical Bengali saris. We also get invited by friends and relatives. I love eating the traditional aloo posto, mutton curry, chicken curry and fish.

Barkha Bisht Sengupta
Though I am from North India, I am married into a Bengali family (to actor Indraneil Sengupta). My in-laws do the traditional puja and I like being a part of it. I want my daughter who is two years old to understand and learn all the rituals of her paternal family. I like to dress her up in traditional baby clothes. I also wear a traditional sari--shakha and pola (bangles) jewellery, sindoor and bindi. I get gifts from my in-laws like saris, jewellery and even cash. I simply love the hilsa fish and the mutton mangsho that my mother-in-law prepares on the occasion.

Sharbani Mukherjee
Its a family tradition to have a grand Durga puja and festivities that last for four to five days. This year, we are holding it at a suburban hotel. Its family time as our entire joint family comes together for all the rituals. My cousins Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Ayan Mukherjee attend the rituals and we have a ball. This time, Tanishaa won't be around as she is away for a reality show. We are forever pulling each other's leg and generally having lots of fun and gossip sessions. We plan our designer sarees and blouses days in advance. We ourselves serve food to all those who attend the puja. We have Bengali cuisine on all days.

Rituparna Sengupta
I make it a point to celebrate this festival with my family in Kolkata. I try winding up my commitments before the festival or postpone them. This time of the year is extremely important to us as a family. I take the first and the eighth day off as there is a bhog at home and it's a complete day off. We cook delicacies at home, lots of mishti dhoi since everyone has a sweet tooth. We don't have a lavish puja, there's just arti and a family get-together where we take the blessings of our elders and distribute prasad to everyone. Usually the puja is followed by a maha arati. In short, family bonding, good food and fun all the way.

Even then, it sounded fun and just the kind of cheeky and naughty thing. It is more a girl's song and they (women) are going to love it." "Her moves are deadly.
